Cathedral of Alès

The Cathedral of Alès recovers its splendour

Restoration of paintings, painted decorations, gilding, sculptures, dressed stone cladding as well as altars and marble flooring

The prestigious restoration project of the Cathedral of Alès, which took more than two years, involved four of our companies.

Atelier Arcoa restored two paintings by Jean-Baptiste Regnault (1779) and Jean Bonvoisin (1779) and removed four paintings.

For its part, Atelier Mériguet-Carrère took charge of the restoration of the painted decorations and gilding of all the arches and walls of the cathedral.

Socra carried out the restoration of the sculptures, the desalination of the stone and the restitution of the decorations in stucco stone.

Finally, Vivian&Cie was responsible for the restoration of the dressed stone cladding, the floors and the plasterwork, as well as the restoration of the altars and marble floors.

Atelier Mériguet-Carrère was awarded the Geste d’Or in the “Heritage” category last October for its work on this cathedral.
